Aerial Arts-You don’t have to play sport to be active!

It’s no secret that as girls get older, many start dropping out of sport. A recent Youth Sport Trust study showed that things like low confidence, periods, worries about how they look—and yep, the classic “can’t be bothered!”—are some of the biggest reasons girls stop getting active outside of school.

So, we knew we had to do something different. That’s why InUnity teamed up with FPS Fitness Studios in Yardley Wood to offer something a bit special—free Aerial Arts classes for girls aged 11–18. We kicked things off with just six girls, but they absolutely loved it! The sessions were such a hit, we had to add a second weekly class to keep up.

It's been amazing watching the girls grow in confidence and skill every week—some have even performed in shows! One of our original girls now volunteers at our holiday camps, which just shows how much this experience has meant to them.

Wanting even more girls to get involved, we were buzzing to secure HAF funding in summer 2023. This meant we could run exciting, action-packed weekly camps—completely free for girls on free school meals, and affordable for everyone else. The response was incredible, and we’ve kept the camps running during most school holidays ever since!

We’ve even been recognised for the impact these sessions are having—shortlisted for both the Innovation and Creativity Award at the Sport Birmingham Community Celebration Awards, and the StreetGames Us Girls Award for Engaging Women and Girls.

We couldn’t be prouder to be creating a space where girls feel strong, confident, and excited to move their bodies—and have loads of fun doing it!
