Clubbing Together in Northfield
Bringing local families, activities and support together
On Wednesday 17th June, InUnity and the clubbing together network hosted the first Clubbing Together in Northfield at Colmers School, a new community event designed to bring local families and organisations together in one welcoming space.
With funding from Clarion Housing, the event gave families across Northfield, Longbridge, Rednal and Frankley a chance to see what is happening locally, from sports and activities to support, advice and opportunities for children, young people and families.
Bringing the Community Together
The afternoon brought a brilliant mix of local organisations and activity providers into one place, giving families the chance to chat, ask questions and find out more in a relaxed, informal setting.
Families could speak to a range of local organisations and find out more about the support, activities and opportunities available in the area, including:
Aquarius - offering friendly information and support around drugs, alcohol, gambling and vaping, helping families understand where to go for advice.
Kooth - sharing information about their free online mental health support, giving young people a safe place to access help when they need it.
Northfield Community Partnership - helping families discover local activities, events and opportunities happening in and around the community.
New Starts - sharing information about their community shop, food bank and family activities, supporting local people in practical and welcoming ways.
National Literacy Trust - inspiring children and families to enjoy reading, with free books for families to take home and share together.
Birmingham Youth Service - sharing information about local youth activities, services and opportunities.
There was plenty for families to get involved in too, with sports and activities delivered by Fit4Sport, Kings Norton Tennis Club and Paul Tucker from Love Weoley.
A Chance to Discover What's Happening Locally
A key part of Clubbing Together was making it easier for families to find out what is happening in their local area.
There are lots of organisations doing great work across Northfield and the surrounding areas, but it is not always easy for families to know what is available or where to go for support. Clubbing Together helped bring those services into one place, making it easier for families to ask questions, make connections and discover activities they may not have come across before.
Free food was available during the event too, helping families feel welcome and giving people time to relax, talk and enjoy the afternoon together.
Learning From Our First Event
As this was our first Clubbing Together event, we have taken lots of learning from the day. We will use this to make future events even bigger, better and more fun for the local community.
