Young Brum On Tour: One Stompin’ Summer!

The InUnity team have been incredibly busy over the summer holidays, delivering Young Brum on Tour in local parks across south Brum. We knew that after lockdown people were keen to get active again, meet their friends & our staff team.  10 sessions a week in 6 different locations meant there was a chance that young people could choose a session close to home.

Here at InUnity we are all about partnership. Working alongside Open House CIC, Fit4sport, City of Birmingham Basketball Club and Raising the Level provided a real mixture of activities from traditional sports, to old skool games, dance & even arts & crafts.

So - who came along to join us on our tour?  Over 320 of you!  Pretty even split of boys and girls who all had different abilities and needs. We saw a big increase in the number of 18-24 year olds get involved in basketball and dance in particular;  providing us with a great opportunity for us to find out how covid-19 has affected them and their plans for the future.

InUnity have also been actively responding to the Covid-emergency.  We don’t and can’t provide food parcels, but what we can do is ensure that our activities are provided in the right place, at the right time and for children & young people that really need some support. So, we delivered 2 activity sessions per week to families in emergency accommodation.  Over 100 young people with their parents attended, and we plan to continue with this support for as long as it is needed.

The feedback from all those attending YBOT, and parents / carers as well has been great! Free activities in local areas, delivered by high quality staff – what’s not to like? YBOT enticed children away from their game’s consoles & out of their rooms. It provided ‘something to talk about’, helping parents communicate with their child as the child had actually (safely) left the home and engaged in an activity independently.

Now the summer is over, InUnity is getting ready to press the reset button! Dance, Junior Youth clubs, Girls groups, football, and our exciting new programme Young Brum: What’s Next?

So, keep a look out for more great opportunities as part of Young Brum!
